There is also acute insomnia and chronic insomnia

In addition to these three types, insomnia is also grouped based on how long this disorder appears. Therefore, there is acute insomnia and chronic insomnia. Well, if you have trouble sleeping at night when certain conditions, such as before the exam or because of the demands of office work, then including acute insomnia. Calm down, this happens naturally and maybe many people have experienced it. Usually, causes of acute insomnia such as:


  • stressed and depressed
  • having a cold, headache and fever
  • unsupportive environmental conditions, such as too bright light or extreme weather
  • disturbed sleep schedule, for example because of jet lag after a long trip or being adapted to a night shift work

If you can treat these conditions immediately, usually acute insomnia does not require special treatment. For example, when you have completed the demands of work, those of you who have trouble falling asleep, can sleep soundly without interruption.

However, if this situation persists for a long time, this could be chronic insomnia. Chronic insomnia is a sleep disorder that occurs 3 times a week and stays for 3 months. Well, the cause of people having trouble sleeping at night due to chronic insomnia is very diverse. Some conditions that can cause chronic insomnia are:


  • Poor sleep habits such as not having regular sleep
  • Post-traumatic stress that causes frequent awakening in the middle of sleep
  • Long-term anxiety that causes many thoughts when going to sleep
  • Deep depression and sadness
  • Other clinical health conditions such as cancer, diabetes, lung disease, and others.

Other Symptoms felt by Chronic Insomnia Patients


Sleep is a very important human need. Suffering from chronic insomnia can affect various aspects of life. People with chronic insomnia will usually feel the following:


  • Excessive fatigue
  • Worry
  • Emotional
  • Difficulty focusing and concentration
  • Difficulty working
  • Difficulty learning
